“Meditation as nourishment” is excerpted from FEAR ESSENTIAL WISDOM FOR GETTING THROUGH THE STORM of Thich Nhat Hanh.
Meditation can bring you happiness right away. You stop letting your worries, your anxieties, your projects carry you away. You come back to the present moment, you touch what is still positive in you, and you have the joy of meditation, the joy of practice according to the teaching of the Buddha. The joy of meditation is like your food, your daily food. If you don’t have that daily food, that joy, you are like a withered flower. When you get back in touch with the awareness that there are plenty of positive conditions still present, your mind becomes very joyful and you smile to yourself; you look fresh and alive. So don’t deprive yourself of that food, the joy of meditation.
